Peace In The Storm {My Experience}

Peace In The Storm {My Experience}

I would like to share a brief experience I had few months ago.

It was early this year and I was preparing for my exams in school. I love listening to music while studying and while searching for the perfect one to play on my phone and just surfing around, I stumbled on something I definitely shouldn’t have (or maybe I had to in order to learn a lesson) I found something a loved one had done although many years back but finding out was just as painful, I didn’t know what to do or think and of course couldn’t continue studying so I just packed my stuff and went to my friend’s place.

I was so hurt and was just sobbing profusely. After explaining to him what happened, he didn’t exactly know what to say and just asked that we pray together, while praying, he prayed for peace and you know asked the Holy Spirit to comfort me himself now I don’t know exactly what happened but I tell you I immediately had an insight of the peace that passeth all understanding which Paul was talking about to the Philippians. I didn’t end that prayer the same way I was earlier.

Christ gave me peace and helped me to forgive. Of course I still remember vividly what got me so torn and upset but the difference is that I don’t feel that storm raging in me anymore, (after all I can talk about it now), I truly experienced the Peace Christ talked about in John 14:27a “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give into you, not as the world giveth, give I into you”. Trust me when I tell you, if not for the help of the Holy Spirit; there was no sweet talk, no comforting speech anybody could have given me to make me feel better.

So many times we go through difficult situations forgetting that we’re not alone, forgetting that there’s someone there waiting patiently to help if only we just asked. Remember that hymn – ‘What a Friend we have in Jesus’?

I’d like you to take a minute to mull over the lyrics. It says;

What a friend we have in Jesus

ALL our sins and grief to bear

What a privilege to carry

Everything to God in Prayer

Oh what peace we often forfeit

Oh what needless pain we bear

All because we do not carry

Everything to God in prayer…

Paul understood it was quite easy to get discouraged, to feel lonely and scared in stormy situations so he gave the Philippians some very helpful instructions we’re also to adhere to, “Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life.

Summing it all up, friends, I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse. Put into practice what you learned from me, what you heard and saw and realized. Do that, and God, who makes everything work together, will work you into his most excellent harmonies”.

So my dear Friend, when trouble comes and everything seems to be upside, it’s no use worry,take it to the Lord in prayer and always remember You’re Never Alone.
