In The Beginning – Embracing The Power of Origins
The beginning marks the start of something new—new life, new journeys, new experiences. Too often, we rush ahead, eager to move forward, without pausing to appreciate the significance of where we are starting from. Beginnings can feel uncertain, unfamiliar, or even insignificant, but they are pivotal. The way we start can shape the entire course of our journey.
This month at DeAltar, we are returning to the core — The Origins.
An origin is more than just a starting point; it’s the foundation upon which everything else is built. In mathematics, the origin is a fixed reference point from which all measurements are made. It doesn’t shift or change— it can be traced. It remains constant, offering clarity and perspective. The same principle applies to life. When faced with uncertainty or feeling adrift, looking back to our origins can anchor us, providing the direction and clarity needed to move forward.
An African proverb says, “If you don’t know where you’re going, remember where you came from.” This isn’t a call to dwell in the past, but rather to understand our roots so that we can navigate the future wisely. Maya Angelou puts it this way: “You can’t really know where you’re going until you know where you have been.”
By understanding “The Beginning” and “The Origins”, we gain better insight into where we are today and whether we are headed in the right direction. It helps us evaluate whether we are moving in alignment with our purpose.
Join us this month at DeAltar as we explore the beginning and origins of concepts, ideas and perspectives that are all too familiar to us yet forgotten due to modernization and the rise of the “woke culture”. Concepts such as love, lust, fear, faith and even life itself are very popular but we may have forgotten where they came from. As we embark on this journey together you might be surprised by what you find.
