Masked Faces
A lot of times, I tend to stare into people eyes and whenever I do that, I am searching for something. It could be embarrassing, because at the same time, I am wondering what that person might be thinking – especially if she is a female.
Anyways, I often times do that because I have come to realize that there is an individual behind the face we see. So, all that there is to you is not what everyone sees. There is a you that is hidden from the physical eyes. One that only you can choose to reveal whenever you feel like or want to.
Wondering why I sound so certain? (Smiles)
It is because I am also caught in that web. The web of wanting everyone to see you but not really see you. You show them a personality you believe they will be more comfortable with, be the person they would be cool with but hide the person you really are.
Now, I am not encouraging going all about “showing yourself” and all of that. But this kinda begs the question; Do you know you? Have you even met you?
Many of us have become so masked that there is a mask under every mask. I am sure you won’t find cool, removing the coat of a seed, only to find out what is inside is the coat of another seed which also has a coat, and it just goes on and on.
First and foremost, everyone has got a mask – believe it or not. It is the you, you want to be known for. It could even be different masks depending on the group you are relating with.
We go to church with a certain mask that depicts a certain kind of disposition, go to school or work (as the case may be) with another, go to the market or store with another. When we are with our friends (depending on the group of friends as well), we put on another mask. We sure have a wardrobe full of ’em masks.
Unfortunately, we spend so much time with these set of people in these different environments and very little time with ourselves for us to remind us of who we really are.
Even these people we roll with really don’t care if there is a deeper you yearning for recognition as long as they are comfortable with the you they see.
There seems to be so much to write about masks but I didn’t set out to tell you all about them, but to show you a better way to live than having a wardrobe filled with different colors and sizes of masks to show those around you.
You can be you and still be cool.
You can be you and still rule your world.
Do not be in the congregation of people that do not reveal who you are. If they do not like what they see, it is their loss. You were not created so beautifully for you to be limited by the sight of men who have no clue your true worth.
If you could only see how beautiful you are, you will not want to be any other person but you.
I know you might be scared nobody will like you if you show them the real you, but you will never know what their reaction will be if you don’t even try.
You may lose some, some may never understand but you will never be alone. There will always be someone who sees you for who you are and loves you for who you are.
Well, yeah… God is number 1. He created you in His image remember? So He is your number 1 fan and best friend. There are others like Him that will see you for who you are and love you, be your friend and want to spend time with you.
So, what do you need to do?
- Spend less time with those that want you to conform to their standard of who they want you to be – you are more than that.
- Spend more time with the one who created you – He knows you more than any other person in the world.
- Spend more time getting to know yourself; not by keeping to yourself but by not being scared of trying out things you really love, by asking yourself questions, by assessing yourself every now and then. Personality tests might not be a perfect model but they sure help to some extent.
- Spend more time with people who will bring out your true self and not settle for what they want you to be.
In all of these, know that the blueprint for your identity is revealed in the Ultimate Guide (The Bible). The more you take it in, the more of your true self you become.
No one can know a machine better than the person who created it. In the same way, no one can know you better than He who made you.
You Are Never Alone.
