Do Good

It’s a tough world. Everyone is busy, each person trying to save his own head, there’s a thousand and one things to do, these are the kind of thoughts that feel our heads most times. We get trapped in our own bubble consciously or not, we lose relationships, we severe ties with some friends and families, all in a bid to remain focused on ourselves and achieve our goals. Even as Christians, we spend little or no time at all praying for other people, as opposed to how much we spend asking for our needs and desires. But honestly, that’s not good enough, we were created to live as a community, to live and survive together, regardless of how small it may seem, if no one, no one at all has helped you in one way or the other, it would be impossible for you to have reached where you are now and that goes for everyone, regardless of how tough you might have had it.

Galatians 6:9-10

[9]And let us not lose heart and grow weary and faint in acting nobly and doing right, for in due time and at the appointed season we shall reap, if we do not loosen and relax our courage and faint.
[10]So then, as occasion and opportunity open up to us, let us do good [morally] to all people [not only being useful or profitable to them, but also doing what is for their spiritual good and advantage]. Be mindful to be a blessing, especially to those of the household of faith [those who belong to God’s family with you, the believers].

Sometimes it feels like nothing good can come out of helping others, it seems like a waste of time trying to help someone when you’ve got a ton load of problems yourself but as the above verse mentions, it’s always worth it in the end if we stick by it. What’s more amazing is one doesn’t have to be super rich or super smart to help, anyone and everyone can help someone, in one way or the other, you can be the difference in someone’s life. It could be smiling to that little child, could be paying someone’s bus fare occasionally, could be simple as a Good Morning to that random stranger, complimenting a colleague at work. One thing I’m sure of is no act of kindness is deemed ‘little’.

For those in your life, the families and friends who are probably as busy as you are or even more busy, it wouldn’t cost a thing to say a word of prayer for them each time they come to mind, sending a text just to check up on them, calling to catch up on old times, whatever it is, it does matter. Be the one to put a smile on someone’s face, be the difference in someone’s life. Never forget it’s all worth it in the end and most importantly, you’re never alone, the big man up there sees your heart.
