The Veil By Shiloh Akinyemi

The Veil By Shiloh Akinyemi

She woke up, tossed and turned in bed, got up and stood before the mirror. This had become her routine; starring in the mirror, looking at the woman she had become. She never realized how beautiful she looked, instead she kept count of all the flaws. From the scar on her left eye, to her academic failure; taking a mental note of how far behind she was compared to her peers as some were degree holders, others NYSC members and students; and she? She was just a teacher. Then she remembered; “oh! I’m a mother”… Hmm at 20 and out of wedlock too.

She sighed as turned away from the mirror wondering what kind of a life she was living. She was trapped and help was not coming. Hey! It wouldn’t come would it? Cause she never asked. After all, she didn’t know she was entangled in the snare of deception. A veil of deception had been draped over her face blocking her vision. She could only see what he wanted her to. He? Yes he, the devil. He kept showing her lies, makes her sad and causing her so much pain.

She turned and walked down the hall past her parents’ bedroom, pausing as she heard voices. Paying more attention, she heard them pray, shook her head, wondering if God really cared at all. Moving away from the door towards the kitchen, she heard her mum read Ezekiel 13:21 but paid no attention.

She prepared breakfast, got Opal (her daughter) ready for school and herself for work.

She could not concentrate; the bible verse kept ringing in her head. Finally, she gave in, picking up her phone, she scrolled through, searching for the bible app, clicked on it and read;

Ezekiel 13:21

Your kerchiefs also will I tear, and deliver my people out of your hand, and they shall be no more in your hand to be hunted; and ye shall know that I am the LORD.

She went on to verses 22 and 23

Because with lies ye have made the heart of the righteous sad, whom I have not made sad; and strengthened the hands of the wicked, that he should not return from his wicked way, by promising him life:

Therefore ye shall see no more vanity, nor divine divinations: for I will deliver my people out of your hand: and ye shall know that I am the LORD. KJV

And her eyes were opened. Opened to the light in God’s word

How many of us are living a life full lies and deceit? We have allowed the devil to feed us with lies, letting him steal our joy and happiness. If only we would acknowledge the truth and ask for help.

If we would just call on our father and ask Him to help us.

The NIV translation replaces the word “Kerchief” with veil. The 23rd verse says Ye shall see no more vanity NIV translation says no more false visions.

God says He would tear of the veil. He is ready to do it, but He won’t if we don’t ask and allow Him to.

Let’s take the first step, accepting that there is a veil the devil has wrapped us in and we need to come out of it. Whatever the veil is, be it deception, failure, sin just name it.

The Almighty by Himself is ever ready to deliver us, restore our joy and happiness, taking away all the pain and sorrow by making us free.

God alone can do this, ask and let Him help you.
