Love is spelt G-O-D
Love is God and he is like no other. Each and every time someone asks me what love is, I say love is God no matter how cliché it might sound and the conversation usually goes like this:
Her- How would you define Love?
Me- I’d define love as God
Her- *laughs* Okay but I mean, what exactly is love?
Me- *smiles* Love is God
Her- Fine, what do you mean by that?
Just as the last post stated, love is not merely an emotion, love is not just the butterfly feeling you get when you see that special person, love is not just the beautiful presents and warm hugs, love is way more than that, love is way bigger than that and the simplest way it can be defined is as God (1 John 4:8). So if God is the best definition of love , let’s look at some bible references describing God’s kind of love.
John 3:16 One of the most popular verse of the bible makes one thing clear, love is SACRIFICIAL. “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his unique Son so that everyone who believes in him might not be lost but have eternal life.”(International Standard Version) As we can see in this verse, God so much-loved us that he gave his son, love isn’t merely something to be said, it is to be expressed, to be proved, just as Roman 5:8 says “But God proves His love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Romans 8:38-39 “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor principalities, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord..”Love is UNCONDITIONAL, how many of us can stick with loving someone even if the person doesn’t reciprocate,even when the person hurts us, true love is truly unconditional, love stays firm regardless of unpleasant situations. It’s truly comforting to know that in spite of how unstable this world can be, one thing is sure and ever constant – God’s love
John 15-13 “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” God’s love for us, for you and me, is the GREATEST love of all. Now you might be thinking, why would he love you so much? But even in your weakest moments, always remember he loves you because that is who he is and not because of who you are because who you truly are in turn depends on who he is.
The first time someone asked me if it was possible to love like God my first response was NO, that’s impossible but then she pointed out this verse to me – Eph 3:17-18 “so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 18. may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ” This Paul’s prayer for the Ephesians clearly tell us it is possible to love like Christ loves ,we are after all created in his image so even as we work towards having that type of love for others, make conscious efforts to see the good in people and love them for it, sometimes they don’t deserve it but remember you didn’t either when Christ chose to die for you.
