Take My Hand And I Will Take Your Hand

Take My Hand and I Will Take Your Hand

One of my favorite scriptures is Psalm 23:

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

He makes me to lie down in green pastures: he leads me beside the still waters.

He restores my soul: he leads me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

Doesn’t it intrigue you to know that someone cares for you as well as your every need? And you are never alone either in the good times or bad times. However, knowing that someone cares is not all you need through really difficult situations; you  need to trust Him to help you through those difficult situations.

What then is Trust?

Trust is reliance on the integrity, strength, ability, surety, and so on, of a person or thing; In other words, it shows confidence in someone’s ability to do for you what you cannot do by yourself.

I love the way Wikipedia puts it; the “trustor” (person who trusts) abandons control over the actions performed by the “trustee” (the person who is trusted). As a consequence, the “trustor” is uncertain about the outcome of the other’s actions; they can only develop and evaluate expectations.

So we see that trusting involves totally surrendering control over something because the person you are surrendering to will most likely handle it much better.

At one point or the other, we need someone’s hand to lift us or lead us. However, it is easier to hold on to  someone else’s hand when you can see where you are going to compared to when everything is just bleak and dark; this is where Trust is really tested.

Can you trust me to take you through a really dark tunnel filled with sharp and dangerous objects; can you trust me to lead you through unhurt. Well, I obviously cannot because we will both end up getting hurt and might never find a way out. However, there is One who is capable of leading you through the darkest tunnels, through the most tempest seas, through the driest dessert where there just seems to be no way. He is the One you can trust; but do you trust Him?

Everyday, He stretches out His hand, offering you His help, His strength, His ability; and on numerous occasions, we simply ignore. We simply do not understand that what He offers is much more than a hand. Peter was close to sinking to the bottom of the ocean till he was caught by the hand of Jesus.

How many times have we been let down by ourselves, and those closest to us; those we felt we could really trust? Man has kept failing right from the beginning of time and that will not change even now. But we have someone who is offering His hand to us and will never fail us. All we really have to do is; Take His Hand and He will Take Ours. Our desire this month is that we learn to Trust even when nothing seems to be working the way we want it; when things do not go the way we expected them to or we do not get what we believe we deserve.

I know you are going through some really hard times right now; I know it is close to impossible to believe, talk less of Hope and have faith. But even through it all, God is stretching out His hand, asking you to let Him lead you through it all. Take His Hand and He Will Take Your Hand.

You Are Never Alone
