THE WAY FORWARD

Sometimes in life, we make wrong decisions and mistakes, and we are forced to face the consequences of those decisions and choices. At this point, the natural tendency would be to clam up, plunge into self-pity and withdraw from people. Are you in such situation? Do you feel you have reached rock bottom because of the poor decisions and choices you’ve made in life? Cheer up, because there’s light at the end of the tunnel.

Someone said, “If you have made mistakes, there’s always another chance for you. You may have a fresh start any moment you choose, for this thing we call ‘failure’ is not the falling down but the staying down”. The following will help in making a fresh start;

Accept your faults.

This involves taking responsibility for your actions. You should not make excuses or blame others for your faults, and you should not pretend nothing has happened. You should acknowledge your faults and confess them to God as David did in psalms 51:3. Acknowledging and confessing your faults to God leads to repentance, renewal and making restitutions (1John:9).

Note: it takes humility to accept one’s faults or take responsibility for one’s actions and choices. So, humble yourself before God, and He will lift you up (James4:10).

Avoid negative emotions.

It’s natural to regret making a poor choice in life, but that shouldn’t degenerate into self pity, depression and other negative emotions that could affect your advancement in life. Learn to forgive yourself. Understand that God loves and has good plans for you (Jeremiah 29:11). All you just need to do is to repent and tread the path of righteousness, and God will “make all things new” in your life (Revelation 21:5).

Ask for counsels.

The Bible says “where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety” (Proverbs 11:14) do not isolate yourself or keep your problems to yourself, get counsels from spiritual leaders or mentors.

Acquaint yourself with the word of God.

Wherewithal shall a young man/woman cleanse his/her way? By taking heed thereto according to thy word” (Psalms 119:9). The word of God cleanses a person and leads him/her in the right path. Hence, cultivate your mind daily in God’s word.

Aspire greater heights.

Do not allow your past hinder your progress. Rely on God’s guidance and move on with your life. If it means starting over again get on with it. I don’t know how much bad choices or wrong decisions or mistakes you’ve made in the previous years, you might have not even started this year on good grounds but God is reaching out to you and He’s saying that He has not given up on you. Don’t give up on yourself, determine in your heart to make things right, God is ever willing to help you and this year will be the beginning of great things for you.

YOU ARE NEVER ALONE!
